]]> Huawei is sending new security patches and improvements for different smartphones. However, Huawei Nova 5T is still waiting for a new software update because there is no rollout detected for the time being.

According to the information, Huawei Nova 5T awaits a new software update. As it last received a new update in February this year.

Huawei sent an incremental feature update for Huawei Nova 5T in limited markets. It brought new VoWiFi and VoLTE network calling features for the smartphone. However, it was limited only to some markets.

The phone is running EMUI 12 software, which is the latest EMUI offering in the global market. However, the phone is also eligible to run EMUI 13, which is currently under testing. Moreover, the rollout plan also doesn’t include Nova 5T, which is very unfortunate. However, we are waiting for more confirmation on the second phase.

But you are suggested to check on the latest software update via Settings. You need to open Settings menu and tap on System & update. From here you need to tap on the CHECK FOR UPDATES button.

Huawei Nova 5T:

Huawei Nova 5T comes with EMUI 9.1 out of the box and upgraded to EMUI 10, EMUI 10.1, and EMUI 11 and currently runs EMUI 12. It equips a 6.26-inch of LCD screen with an all-view FHD+ resolution (2340 x 1080 pixels) and a 97% screen-to-body ratio.

The Nova 5T offers 6GB of RAM + 128GB of internal storage. It is powered by Kirin 980 octa-core chipset, Mali-G76 GPU, and has a side fingerprint scanner.

Huawei Nova 5T

This phone offers a quad camera system, which takes high-quality photographs featuring a 48-megapixel primary camera with f/1.8 aperture. It also consists of a 16 MP f/2.4 aperture ultra wide-angle camera along with 2MP macro camera and a 2 MP bokeh camera. On the front side, you will get a 32MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture for selfies.

All and all Huawei Nova 5T is still waiting for a new software update and we hope that the company will soon deliver it a solution.

]]> Huawei continues to dig into the latest software vulnerabilities and these patches roll out for smartphones with monthly security patches. May 2023 is no exception to this action plan and there are various EMUI bugs and security threats that are fixed in this month’s security bulletin for global models.

For your information, we’ll explore May 2023 EMUI security bug and software threat fixes in the following order – Critical, High, and then Medium. So, let’s get started.

Critical:

Huawei has fixed CVE-2021-46881 and CVE-2021-46882 CVE-2021-46883. These were responsible for causing damage to the video framework and making the app unusable. This issue is reported on EMUI 12.0.1, EMUI 12.0.0, EMUI 11.0.0, EMUI 10.1.1, and EMUI 10.1.0.

High:

CVE-2021-46885 and CVE-2021-46886 are also related to the bug found in the video frame and could cause damage to the app’s availability. These two software threats are reported on EMUI 12.0.1, EMUI 12.0.0, EMUI 11.0.0, EMUI 10.1.1, and EMUI 10.1.0.

CVE-2021-46887 is caused by a lack of length check vulnerability in the HW_KEYMASTER module. It could result in out-of-bounds read. CVE-2022-48480 is found of missing authentication for some received broadcasts in the reminder module. The company has successfully patched this software issue on EMUI 13.0.0, EMUI 12.0.1, and EMUI 12.0.0.

Huawei EMUI

Medium:

CVE-2023-0117 is caused by unstrict app identity verification in the online authentication function of the hwKitAssistant module. This is directed to compromise apps such as MeeTime. Also, its patch is applied on a device with EMUI 13.

There’s a new medium-level Gallery app hijacking bug found and fixed with May 2023 EMUI security patch. With this, attackers can use malicious apps to cause download failure and app crashes. Its patch is also applied for versions EMUI 13.0.0, EMUI 12.0.1, EMUI 12.0.0, and EMUI 11.0.1.

CVE-2023-31226 is spotted affecting the confidentiality of the smartphone running EMUI 13 and above. However, it’s also patched. Lastly, CVE-2023-31227 appeared with a missing API calling verification in hwPartsDFR. It was used to steal data on EMUI 13 but is now fixed.

]]> Introduced in Early 2019, the Huawei P30 series comes in three models including Huawei P30 and Huawei P30 Pro. These smartphones equip 6.1 and 6.47-inch OLED displays and are powered by the flagship 7nm Kirin 980 series processor. Huawei P30 series features new Leica triple and quad camera systems including a SuperSensing camera array and camera technologies for a better photography experience.

In terms of software, Huawei P30 and P30 Pro comes with EMUI 9.1 then upgraded to EMUI 10.0, 10.1, and upgraded to EMUI 11. On the other hand, HarmonyOS 2 operating system for the Huawei P30 device has been released in China and is yet to release in the global market.

However, Huawei does have confirmed the EMUI 12 rollout as a major update for the global Huawei P30 series consumers and it has almost rolled out the software for the corresponding models. Read more about EMUI 12 features here.

EMUI 9.1.0.124 update for Huawei P30 and P30 Pro improved the Fingerprint unlock performance. The update also fixed a serious issue with the device’s Always-on display. It enables third-party application notifications when the screen is off, previously it does not show any notification.

Also, fixes an issue that caused audio and video to go out of sync during the playback of Instagram videos recorded in hands-free mode. It fixes an issue where emails with the attachment.

]]> February 2023 security update is making its way to EMUI-powered global devices and the latest addition to this rollout series includes Huawei P40. According to the information, the Huawei P40 series is now getting these new patches for better and all-around security.

The February 2023 firmware update for the Huawei P40 series comes with EMUI version 12.0.0.304. This is an incremental software update and there are no other changes mentioned in the changelog for the time being.

Meanwhile, Huawei is working on EMUI 13 but there’s no official announcement has been made on this matter. Which, users are waiting but the wait is stretching too far.

As we suggest, you can download the latest software update via the My Huawei app. However, the fastest way is to open Settings and enter the System & updates section.

Huawei P40 Pro

Huawei P40 series is the first to equip a quad curved edge display, the precision of such display technology is hard to achieve by another phone maker. And even after 3 years of launch, the phone’s display doesn’t show any defect in quality or any other aspect of the image reproduction.

Following its launch, Huawei sold this smartphone in many markets and the users received it well without Google Mobil Services (GMS). Huawei P40 series boasts an amazing camera system that has already gathered so much attention in the tech industry.

Furthermore, Huawei P40 models were launched with EMUI 10.1, upgraded with EMUI 11, 11.1, and then EMUI 12. Certainly, the device is capable of running EMUI 13, and may soon grab it, as we await an official confirmation.

]]> Last month, Huawei rolled out the last update of 2022 for Nova 5T and the phone users are now awaiting the first software update of 2023, as we’re about to conclude the month.

As for now, Huawei Nova 5T runs EMUI 12.0.0.170 with December 2022 security patch but there could be more that is awaiting us. Other than EMUI 12, Huawei Nova 5T users are also looking toward EMUI 13. However, the tech maker is yet to launch EMUI 13 roadmap and eligible devices.

You can download the latest software update by visiting Settings > then tapping on System & updates and then selecting Software updates from the menu. Do note that the phone may take some time to reach to server and bring back the build version.

Huawei Nova 5T expands at 73.97mm, 154.25mm, and 7.87mm, and it weighs 174 grams. The phone comes in four colors – Crush green, Midsummer purple, black, and crush blue.

According to the information, it boasts a 3750 mAh battery that you can recharge fast with a 22.5W charger. The phone maker is sending this software update with EMUI version 12.0.0.255 and an update package size of around 190MB. Similar to the other releases, the update is out in batches and may take some time to expand among different Huawei P30 Lite owners.

Meanwhile, you should know that the changelog is showing us security patches from December 2022. As of now, all Huawei phones already received this security version and these phones could be the first to dive into the next major software update.

Talking of which, Huawei has not announced an EMUI 13 rollout roadmap. However, there’s a lot that is needed to know. For the time being, we don’t have confirmation about EMUI 13 eligibility for P30 lite.

Currently, Huawei P30 lite models run EMUI 12, this was a surprising software update that Huawei dropped to the smartphone. Why? Because the phone was freeze cold after EMUI 10 and not received any of the follow-up major rollouts such as EMUI 10.1 or 11.

But the installation of EMUI 12 has reimagined the P30 lite smartphone and given consumers a better way to relive this device.

Huawei P30 Lite users can download the December 2022 EMUI software update via Settings, followed by System & updates, and then follow the on-screen content. Note that you can also check for a new version via the My Huawei app.

There are some common safety precautions that you can take such as backing up important data. While the phone will automatically delete the downloaded OTA package once the installation is finished.

Moreover, the phone will restart and we suggest you give it a few minutes to adjust the background process and provide a smoother experience.

As mentioned above, the update will take some time to reach all P30 lite users, so try to check the upgrade manually, if an OTA notification doesn’t appear.

]]> 2023 is on and we’re still waiting for EMUI 13 on past phones, as Huawei Mate 50 Pro is the only device with this software access in the global market. However, there’s still a chance that we can start an early discussion on Huawei EMUI 13.1.

I get it, the company has not released the new EMUI 13 for old devices. Yet, we’re here to talk about software that is not even announced. On that, we’ve to explain a few things before we jump to a conclusion.

Dual flagship:

The past report reveals that Huawei will launch dual flagships this year. It will be the first time when Huawei will launch the P series and Mate series (traditional) smartphones in the same year.

While it was 2020 when the company unveiled Huawei P40 and Mate 40 series. After that, the company only brought – the P50 series in 2021 and Mate 50 series in 2022.

Two software:

Before 2021, Huawei followed two different flagship strategies, and these two phones were packed with two versions of EMUI.

For example, the Huawei P40 provides EMUI 10.1 and Huawei Mate 40 delivers EMUI 11. Interestingly, the tradition previously followed by P30 and Mate 30 with EMUI 9.1 and EMUI 10 respectively.

But in the past two years, this break in dual flaghip, allowed Huawei to only use one major software for all of its devices.

How?

Huawei P50 was launched in 2021 with the new EMUI 12 pre-installed. While Mate 50 series with EMUI 13 in the following year.

What’s next?

In China, Huawei is preparing HarmonyOS 3.1 to mark its entrance in the first quarter of 2023. To be mentioned, it could be featured with the Huawei P60 series, which will also debut around Q1. Meanwhile, HarmonyOS 3 was installed on Mate 50 series.

Keeping the fact that the Huawei P60 series may also meet the global market, we can’t deny the possibility. That Huawei may introduce this new flaghip to global consumers with a collection of features in EMUI 13.1.

For now, Huawei has not made any official announcement on this matter but we could take it as an early opening for this discussion. Before that, we want to check the roadmap for the EMUI 13 rollout and we’re eagerly waiting for the release.

]]> Huawei Nova 5T has started receiving the last update of 2022, which improves the phone’s EMUI security aspects latest security patches released in December 2022. As of now, Huawei distributed December 2022 EMUI update to various smartphones including Mate 40 Pro, P40 Pro, Mate 50 Pro, P40 Lite, Nova 7i and other devices.

According to the changelog, the latest firmware update comes with EMUI 12 version 12.0.0.170. The update package size is 217 megabytes. However the software update is rolling out in batches and it should be downloaded immediately, as it appears.

This last EMUI update of 2022 for Huawei Nova 5T comes amid the wait of EMUI 13. Yes, even after three months of listing, Huawei has not published any updates on this upcoming EMUI version.

Huawei Nova 5T users can download this update via Settings > System & updates, followed by Software updates and then CHECK FOR UPDATES. You will have to wait for a few minutes until the phone connects to the server and fetch the update.

If available, Huawei Nova 5T users can press “DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL” to start downloading the OTA package. Don’t forget that this would take some time to complete the EMUI package.

After the launch, Huawei P30 phones have been upgraded with EMUI 10, 10.1, 11 and it currently, runs EMUI 12. The latest EMUI version has various features that are better than EMUI 11. However, it would be nice to see this phone running EMUI 13. We’ll have to wait to see that happen.

]]> Huawei Mate 20 Pro needs no introduction as it is one of the most successful Mate smartphones ever sold in the global market. However, the Mate 20 Pro users are still waiting for a new Huawei EMUI software update.

Back in September, Huawei rolled out a new software update for the Mate 20 Pro but it only brought in system optimizations for the EMUI software.

Meanwhile, Huawei has not released any details on Mate 20’s EMUI 13 upgrade status. Hence, it’s quite long for the corresponding smartphone owners to stay without a new firmware version.

On the other hand, the Huawei Mate 20 series is eligible to install a new software update in China. According to the information, the entire Mate 20 family can now register for HarmonyOS 3 beta program.

HarmonyOS 3 is the latest software that brings a bunch of new features and a better user interface. Interestingly, these features are derived also from EMUI 13.

Amid this development, Huawei Mate 20 Pro or other Mate 20 smartphones are looking for new software, feature drop, or security patch. Related to this, a user asked us whether his device is having some hardware issue or Huawei has removed it from the software updates cycle. But it doesn’t seems to be any issue with the smartphone at all.

To be mentioned, Huawei Mate 20 devices run EMUI 9.0 out of the box. However, these flaghip has later been upgraded with EMUI 9.1, EMUI 10.0, 10.1, EMUI 11, and then 12. The latest EMUI brings it a whole new user experience as compared to EMUI 11.

Indeed, the Huawei Mate 20 series has been low-prioritized in the monthly and quarterly upgrade cycle. However, the company kept on sending new software updates for Mate 20 series.
